A Compact and Efficient Workshop Heater

Review of the Sunster Diesel Heater: A Compact and Efficient Solution for Your Workshop

Sunster Diesel Heater. For a while now, I've been in search of a reliable diesel heater to warm up my workshop, and I think I’ve finally found the one. The Sunster Diesel Heater is a compact, all-in-one unit that promises to deliver the heating performance I’ve been after. Let’s break it down, test it, and see how it performs.

Unboxing and First Impressions

Out of the box, the Sunster Diesel Heater feels solid. The top is equipped with a sturdy carry handle, while two pockets house the remote control and an LCD controller. These controllers will manage the heater’s settings, ensuring that you can easily control temperature levels. On one side of the unit, you'll find the air intake and the power intake, designed for both the 12V power supply and the 240V-to-12V power brick.

I noticed a small issue with the plug not having a fuse, which is a common oversight with many Chinese-made products. It's a quick fix, but something to keep in mind. Once that’s sorted, the unit is good to go. The other side of the heater has a hot air outlet where you can attach a duct, and there's also a fuel level gauge. The unit’s robust construction features plastic on the top, a plastic bottom tray, and a metal body, making it durable and sturdy.

Inside the Heater: A Closer Look

The Sunster Diesel Heater is very well-constructed. After removing the outer casing, I was able to take a closer look inside. They’ve used proper fuel lines, clamps, and even a flexible pipe to connect the heater. However, the green fuel pipe is a bit too flexible for my liking, and it can easily get squeezed, affecting fuel flow. A more rigid plastic pipe would be a better alternative in the long run.

Despite this, the unit uses quality components like a silent fuel pump, and it comes with an air filter that’s designed with a wire mesh for better filtration. This is a nice touch, as many other heaters don’t bother with proper filtration. While I did find the absence of a diesel filter somewhat concerning, the overall build quality impressed me.

Setting Up and Testing the Heater

I connected the Sunster Diesel Heater to the power supply and filled the fuel tank. The heater fired up without much hassle. It operates very smoothly and quietly, which was a pleasant surprise, as many heaters tend to be noisy. The temperature control is easily managed with the LCD controller, and I was able to boost the heat output quickly.

In terms of performance, the heater really impresses. The heat coming out of the duct was intense, and the unit managed to maintain a steady temperature in my small workshop. The exhaust pipe, connected outside, did a great job of venting the gases, and the temperature readings were impressive, hitting nearly 100°C at the exhaust.

Efficiency and Quiet Operation

When it comes to noise, the Sunster Diesel Heater runs remarkably quietly, especially when compared to similar models on the market. I measured a maximum of 70 parts per million of carbon monoxide during operation, which is incredibly low and indicates the heater’s efficient combustion. This is much cleaner than many other diesel heaters, which can be quite noisy and produce higher levels of carbon monoxide.

Durability and Practicality

One thing that really stood out about the Sunster Diesel Heater is its build quality. It’s a solid unit, and the company has clearly put a lot of thought into the design and manufacturing. The shell, the pump, the LCD, and the air filter are all developed in-house, which means they’re unique to Sunster and not generic parts used by other manufacturers.

The heater also comes with a comprehensive manual, so if you're interested in the technical details, you’ll find plenty of information. And at £79, the Sunster Diesel Heater offers excellent value for money, given its durability and performance.

Final Thoughts

Overall, I’m very impressed with the Sunster Diesel Heater. It's a well-built, efficient, and quiet heating solution that will be perfect for keeping my workshop warm during the winter. While the green fuel line could be improved, and the rivets make servicing a bit tricky, these are minor drawbacks in an otherwise outstanding product.

For anyone looking for a compact and portable diesel heater for a workshop or garage, the Sunster Diesel Heater is a fantastic choice. Highly recommended for those who need a reliable, efficient, and well-designed heater.
